Honey ...written Mar 18, 11:51 AM by Jeff

A couple of years ago, I walked into the kitchen — our wonderful kitchen we built in the Provo house — to discover a puddle of maple syrup in the middle of the floor. William had pulled the bottle of Finest Vermont from the fridge and poured it out onto the floor.

Last week, Kate caught William upstairs in his room, door closed. She opened the door to discover him yellow-handed: squeezing mustard in puddles in the carpet, Peter’s bed, his own clothes. She cleaned it up, but we haven’t yet shampooed the carpet. The big bright yellow splotches testify to his behavior.

Today: third verse, same as the first, but a different substance this time. To my surprise, honey can be quite easy to clean. You take his bedside lamp, now covered in honey, and simply place in the plastic barrel at the end of the driveway: done! Blankets go straight to the wash, and the bedside table gets set in the rain until I cool off and we get the boy out of his sticky clothes and into the tub.

We’re locking up the ketchup.
